Russia has always been famous for a huge number of talented inventors and inventions, the majority of which lies ingloriously in various patent departments. The number of innovations and inventions that become new market products is much smaller in relation to the total number of inventions and innovations. This discrepancy has led to the creation of “Innovation Management” major to train specialists in development and implementation of innovations of any type (technical, social, services, etc.).
Innovation is an interdisciplinary scientific-technical field. It has three main components: technical engineering, economic, and management. This is why an innovation professional has a knack for technology, can perform a financial and economic analysis, and evaluate the efficiency of implementation of innovations, can develop and manage a commercialization program for such innovations.
The relevance of the master program is conditioned by active innovative development of Russian electronic engineering for the military-industrial complex and civil purposes, as well as a government’s course on the transition to knowledge-driven economy.
“Innovation Management” is a unique program in terms of its teaching staff and the possibilities for the graduate. The main teaching staff have academic titles and ranks, and fundamental knowledge; the academic process involves invited representatives of prospective employers: current senior project managers of “Elcom+”, “Alawar Entertainment” and others. There is an ongoing program of simultaneous engineering degree with the University of Ritsumeikan (Japan) and foreign apprenticeships (Institute for Industrial and Technological Research, Taiwan; Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finland). The master program students take part in the annual international conference “Innovation” and receive diplomas.
